Breast Augmentation

As a female plastic surgeon, Dr. Renee Burke knows what a woman’s breasts can mean for her self-confidence and the way she views herself. The size and shape of your breasts are influenced by a number of different factors, from genetics to pregnancy to changes in your weight. Whether your breasts have endured various changes throughout life, or they were never really the breasts you wished for, an augmentation can increase fullness and create more youthful, feminine contours. Dr. Burke’s goals with each breast augmentation she performs in Barrington, IL is to create or restore balance and volume to help you attain your ideal breast shape and size.

Good Breast Augmentation Candidates

Breast augmentation has come a long way since being considered a procedure that only movie stars would ever consider. Now the most popular plastic surgery in the country, hundreds of thousands of women benefit from breast implants each year. What makes this procedure so popular is its ability to be completely personalized to each woman’s unique goals. The many different options regarding implant type, size, profile, incision type, and more are what allows a mother to restore lost breast volume after pregnancy and breast feeding; a breast cancer survivor to take back her feminine figure after a mastectomy, or a woman who has always had smaller breasts to achieve the fuller, curvier figure she has always wanted.

“So, it’s been 8 days and I feel great. Went back to work and am finally sleeping in my bed again after 7 days in a recliner… Can’t wait for summer so I can actually wear more flattering clothes. I hate to have to bundle up. I have to say it’s all worth it though, and I’d do it again in a minute.”

What to Expect from Breast Augmentation Surgery

Dr. Burke uses today’s most current techniques in breast augmentation to ensure beautiful and natural looking results. She offers traditional incision locations, hidden under the breast or the edge of the areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple). Additionally, Dr. Burke specializes in transaxillary breast augmentation, where the incision is concealed within a natural crease of the underarm region, avoiding any visible scars on the breast.

Your surgery with Dr. Burke will be performed under general anesthesia. Once your specified incision has been made, Dr. Burke will carefully place your chosen implants within a pocket created either above or beneath the pectoral muscle (this will also be determined during your consultation). Silicone implants are put in place pre-filled to your desired size.

For a quicker and more efficient procedure, Dr. Burke uses the Keller Funnel™. The Keller Funnel is an implant delivery device that allows for no-touch insertion of the implants into the breast.

Once Dr. Burke has achieved your desired results, your incisions are closed and any necessary dressings or surgical drains are put into place.

Breast Augmentation Recovery and Results

Most women are able to return home shortly after their surgery under the care of a loved one, but you may require an overnight stay if your augmentation was paired with other surgeries such as a breast lift or liposuction.

In general, you may return to light activities within a day or two of your augmentation and full activities within 2 to 3 weeks. You will notice fuller, younger-looking breasts almost immediately, with results only getting better as bruising, swelling, and incision lines continue to fade as you heal. We love hearing the stories of our patients who have undergone breast augmentation—of how they spent hours at the mall trying on everything for their new body, their first time wearing a bikini, or the simple joy they felt when first seeing the full outcome of their procedure in the mirror.

Results are usually long term; however, changes in weight, pregnancy, and natural aging may alter the shape of your breasts after augmentation.
