Hyperhidrosis: Don’t Sweat It

Burke-Hyperhidrosis

While sweating is always a nuisance, for those who struggle with hyperhidrosis, sweating can have a far more dramatic impact on one’s daily life. Characterized by excessive and unpredictable sweating, hyperhidrosis and the resulting sweat can interrupt and take over one’s life. Although hyperhidrosis may be far more common than many might expect, an excess of perspiration still proves a cause of embarrassment for many men and women.

Along with Dr. Burke, we, at her Barrington practice, understand the difficulties that excessive sweating can carry. With the help of Precision TX, Dr. Burke is excited to offer an effective solution.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis. A fancy word for a common disorder. Easily broken down, hyperhidrosis is quite literally the act of extreme sweating (“hyper”, being too much of, and “hidrosis”, meaning sweating). Necessary to cool the body, sweating in and of itself prevents the body from overheating. However, individuals struggling from hyperhidrosis sweat when the body is not in need of cooling. While excessive sweating is not limited to the underarms, for many men and women, this area proves to be the most problematic.

How Can Precision TX Help?

Precision TX uses a controlled laser energy to target individual sweat glands. This latest technique, known as Laser Sweat Reduction, has been shown to significantly decrease the amount of sweat produced in the underarm area.

What Is the Precision TX Treatment Like?

With skilled precision, Dr. Burke focuses the Precision TX hand piece on the treatment area. Carefully directed, once converged under the skin, the laser energy converts to heat and disables specific sweat glands. No longer able to properly function, the sweat glands are unable to produce excess sweat.

A short treatment, Dr. Burke is able to complete this minimally invasive procedure in only 30 to 45 minutes. Side effects are minimal; however, some patients do experience residual swelling or bruising as well as a mild discomfort for up to one week.

While you may notice an immediate change in perspiration—results normally stabilize over the next six months. Proving itself effective, Laser Sweat Reduction has shown to reduce excessive sweating by 80 to 90 percent.
