What Is an Arm Lift?

Loose skin and excess fat in the upper arms can be a source of embarrassment in sleeveless clothing and swimwear. To tighten and reshape sagging or loose skin of the upper arms, Dr. Burke may recommend an arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, for her patients from Barrington, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, and Algonquin.

What to Expect During Your Arm Lift

Dr. Burke will analyze your individual areas of concern and assess your skin tone. If skin tone is good, liposuction alone may reshape the arm by removing excess fat. If an arm lift is required, incisions are hidden in the axilla (underarm) or along the inner arm as necessary to tighten and reshape the upper arm. Dr. Burke may combine these techniques to achieve your optimal outcome.

What to Expect After Your Arm Lift

Generally outpatient, under general anesthesia, an arm lift may require an overnight stay when combined with other procedures.

Recovery depends on the extent of your arm lift, and any accompanying procedures. Light activity is possible the day after surgery; a return to more normal activity may take 1-2 weeks or more. Light compression garments may be recommended during your recovery to help reduce fluid retention and shape your trimmer arms.

Results can be long-term, but weight loss/gain or natural aging may alter your appearance.
