Losing a large amount of weight is rewarding, but the let-down occurs when excess sagging skin prevents you from feeling confident in your new physique. If you have lost a substantial amount of weight and have areas of loose and sagging skin, Post-Weight Loss Contouring along with skin removal may be appropriate. Dr. Burke uses a combination of techniques to surgically reshape the body by removing loose and sagging skin on the face, neck, arms, abdomen, love handles, buttocks, and thighs.
In general, Dr. Burke performs the surgeries in stages and recommends all patients be within 20 pounds of their goal weight and are able to maintain it for several months before undergoing Post-Weight Loss Contouring.
“Dr. Burke and her staff exceeded my expectations. After getting a few opinions, I realized Dr. Burke wasn’t the least expensive option but was the most accurate, thorough, caring and trustworthy of candidates. Her expertise comforted not only myself, but the most critical of individuals, my mother.”Real Patient
Good Post-Weight Loss Body Contouring Candidates
Post-weight loss body contouring is ideal for men and women who have lost a significant amount of weight and have achieved a stable weight but have remaining excess skin and fat that they want to remove. Patients who qualify for post-weight loss body contouring must be in good overall health and have a BMI below 35.
Depending on your needs, Dr. Burke can perform a combination of body contouring procedures to help you look your best. Post-weight loss body contouring can include a circumferential body lift, extended tummy tuck, upper back lift, thigh lift, arm lift, and liposuction to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Dr. Burke will perform a full evaluation during your consultation and can provide a surgical plan at this time.
As a double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Burke uses the latest techniques and technology to bring your vision to life. Her artistic eye and years of experience produce stunning results that enhance your natural beauty.
Dr. Burke takes the time to meet with patients to discuss their goals and expectations. She focuses on listening to the individual patient’s needs to understand what they hope to achieve through post-weight loss body contouring surgery. She will through the plan with you to ensure you understand her recommendations, then our staff prepares a detailed surgical quote that lists the costs for the procedure, facility, anesthesia, and surgeon fees, for you to take home.
What to Expect
Depending on the areas treated and extent of your procedure, Post-Weight Loss Contouring may be outpatient or require an overnight stay (with additional cost.) Procedures are generally performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Renee Burke will be able to evaluate your individual situation more specifically during consultation.
Dr. Burke often performs a circumferential body lift, which involves making an incision low along the hip bone, that goes all the way around the body. This allows her to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, back, and flanks. This scar can be easily hidden by the waistband of your underwear.
In some cases, if you have experienced muscle separation in your abdomen, Dr. Burke will perform muscle tightening during your body lift and tummy tuck procedure to give you the flat, smooth tummy you desire.
If you have sagging skin on your upper back below your shoulders, Dr. Burke may perform an upper back lift in combination with other post-weight loss contouring procedures. An upper back lift includes a horizontal scar in the bra line.

Recovery and Results
Recovery depends on the extent of your procedure. A return to more normal activity may take up to four weeks. Compression garments will be worn throughout your recovery to reduce swelling. Results can be long-term, but weight loss/gain or pregnancy after your procedure may alter your appearance.
