In Barrington, IL, Dr. Renee Burke performs tummy tuck surgery for women and men who want a flatter abdomen and slimmer waist. Fluctuating weight, pregnancy, and age can result in excess abdominal skin that even diet and exercise can’t improve. Abdominoplasty, often called a tummy tuck, removes the excess skin and tightens abdominal muscles separated by pregnancy.
Good Tummy Tuck Candidates
You may benefit from abdominoplasty if sagging skin and loose tissue around your belly won’t go away on its own after pregnancy or weight loss. Skin that’s lost its elasticity can’t “snap back” to your body’s new contours and your abdominal wall may be stretched. No matter how hard you work out or how healthy you eat, these are problems that cannot be 100% reversed on their own.
A tummy tuck addresses these problems and results in a flatter, slimmer, firmer midsection. Dr. Burke can combine your tummy tuck with liposuction of the abdomen and hips to help further slim down your waistline. Women who want to improve the appearance of their breasts and abdominal areas after having children may want to consider a Mommy Makeover.
Meet Dr. Renee Burke
Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Burke creates exceptional results by combining the skill of an accomplished plastic surgeon with empathy and compassion.
Dr. Burke determines during your consultation if you are best-suited for a full tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. This depends on the how much excess skin you have and if it is limited to the area below your belly button. She may also recommend supplementing your tummy tuck with liposuction. In fact, there are some patients who come in asking about a tummy tuck but are actually better suited for liposuction, and vice versa.
“I love my new appearance! Clothes fit again and my look is natural.
The recovery was what you would expect in terms of fatigue for a few weeks but totally worth it. I wish I had done it sooner. No regrets!”

What to Expect
Your tummy tuck with Dr. Burke consists of tightening loose abdominal muscles that generally have weakened as the result of pregnancy or aging. The goals of a tummy tuck are a smooth, toned abdomen and a well-defined waistline.
To sculpt a defined waistline, Dr. Burke may also address any excess fat on the hips and love handles by performing liposuction at the time of your tummy tuck. She makes full tummy tuck incisions around the belly button and another just above the pubic area, so it can be concealed within the bikini line.
A mini tummy tuck treats a limited, central tummy bulge as well as excess skin below the belly button. A short incision made just above the pubic region is generally all that is required; an incision around the belly button is usually not necessary.
Recovery and Results
Recovery depends on the extent of your tummy tuck. Most patients are able to stand upright within the first week and can perform lighter activities after 2 weeks. It takes some time to get back to normal, so plan on taking a few weeks off work and other daily activities. Your body will need some time to heal; any bruising and swelling will continue to fade over time. While scarring cannot be avoided, it typically lightens over time and can be easily hidden under a bikini or a pair of underwear. Most patients don’t mind the scar since it means losing the excess skin!
Once your body has completely healed, you will notice dramatically slimmer contours and firmer, younger-looking skin. For many of our patients, the procedure is worth every minute when they see their new bodies in the mirror for the first time.
